Dr. Charlene YL Fan began her clinical practice after earning her MSc degree in Physiotherapy from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2012. By 2016, she shifted her focus to scoliosis physiotherapy and later pursued her Ph.D. at The University of Hong Kong , where her research explored the clinical efficacy and underlying mechanisms of physiotherapeutic interventions for scoliosis.

An active contributor to the field, Dr. Fan has presented her research at prestigious conferences, including the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) and the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). Her groundbreaking study, "Muscle Asymmetry in Untreated Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS)," was honored with the Best Paper Award by the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) in 2024, highlighting her significant contributions to evidence-based scoliosis care.

Additionally, she is the first author of the chapter "Scoliosis-Specific Exercise in Treating AIS" in the electronic textbook "Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis", which serves as a key educational resource for spine trainees.
